The Programme

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many conferences were cancelled or moved to online settings. Nevertheless, Leiden MUN was determined to offer a safe but valuable learning opportunity to young adults. Therefore, we set up The Leiden MUN Academy: an innovative, six-week Preparatory Track that specialises in teaching negotiation tactics, lobbying, public speaking, policy research, and resolution writing. Throughout the programme, delegates had the opportunity to develop their professional skill-set by engaging in committee debates within a Model United Nations (MUN) framework, even though there were no conferences being offered.

During committee sessions, delegates represented the foreign policy of an assigned UN member state as part of a wider UN body such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). By deliberating topics such as the future of nuclear proliferation and the legality of human rights interventions, we provided our delegates with the opportunity to discuss the most crucial global issues that challenge the collective governance of the world.

The Leiden MUN Foundation takes pride in offering all our delegates a proficient selection of competent Delegate Trainers that have attended MUN conferences around the world, including Harvard and Oxford University. Each delegate at the Academy was coached by a personal mentor with the core objective being the professional development of our students.

Where We Taught: The Hague Tech

The Hague Tech hosts an innovative assembly of business enterprises and young professionals. Most notably, it is characterised by an international and diverse community that provides its office spaces to corporations, governments, tech-companies, entrepreneurs and other notable employers.

The Leiden MUN Academy conducted its sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday at this highly productive environment, to provide our delegates with an inspirational atmosphere.

It was our goal to immerse our applicants into a professional environment which can then be utilised by our students on their own, independent initiatives.

Building a professional network serves as a vital stepping stone towards anyone’s career advancement. Joining Leiden MUN can be your first step forward.
